§ 1

Mechanism of action

  • TB-500 (as a synthetic analog of thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring peptide) interacts with G-actin and regulates actin polymerisation in cells.
  • Thymosin beta-4 is expressed endogenously in high concentrations in platelets and other cells and is involved in cell migration, proliferation and differentiation.
  • Preclinical studies suggest interactions with angiogenic and inflammation-modulating signalling pathways.
  • The term 'TB-500' is a trade designation for a synthetic fragment analog and is not identical to native thymosin beta-4.
§ 2

Research status

  • Thymosin beta-4 has been investigated in the context of cardiac muscle regeneration after myocardial infarction (preclinical models) as well as wound healing and neuroprotection.
  • Clinical studies of thymosin beta-4 (Regentec/RegeneRx) were conducted for eye conditions (dry eye, neurotrophic keratitis), with mixed results.
  • For the synthetic TB-500 variant (trade name, research chemical), no published clinical human studies exist.
  • Cardiovascular applications are at an early preclinical stage.

Frequently asked questions

What is TB-500?

TB-500 (as a synthetic analog of thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring peptide) interacts with G-actin and regulates actin polymerisation in cells.

What type of peptide is TB-500?

TB-500 belongs to the Thymosin class.

Is TB-500 legal in Germany?

TB-500 is not approved as a medicine in Germany. Obtaining it outside clinical studies is legally problematic.

Where can I buy TB-500?

Peptica sells nothing and names no sources. TB-500 is "not approved" in Germany; obtaining unapproved substances outside clinical studies is illegal and carries quality and safety risks.

Is TB-500 banned in sport (WADA)?

Yes. TB-500 is on the WADA Prohibited List and is therefore banned in competitive sport.

What are the known risks of TB-500?

Documented risks include: No controlled human studies of synthetic TB-500 — safety profile not established; Theoretical risk of uncontrolled cell differentiation (growth-factor activity). This is not a complete safety assessment and not medical advice — see the risks section for the full list.

How well researched is TB-500?

The evidence is classified as “preclinical”. 3 studies are cited on this page.

What is the molecular weight of TB-500?

TB-500 has a molar mass of about 4963 Da.

Legal assessment

Thymosin beta-4 and TB-500 are on the WADA Prohibited List (section S2). The substance is not approved as a medicine in the EU. Thymosin beta-4 is used in veterinary medicine in some countries (e.g. Australia) for horses; these approvals do not apply to human use. Legal status on import is unclear — conservative assessment: not to be obtained.
